Art, love, care, politics and institutions
How do art and artists function in and survive the institutional field, which is so highly regulated today? How do they function in a market that seems to be more and more alienated from artistic values and processes of creation? How could we overcome this ditch between the artists/the art work and the institutes?
Inspired by the American philosopher Michael Hardt and his conference on love as a political concept, `About love` (2007), different studies on care ethics and politics, and forwarding the practice of love and care as a possible answer, I`ll propose a discussion on what love and care are as to try address the questions: How could the artists practice love with the institutes, and vice-versa? How could artists and institutes develop a practice of care as way to empower each other?

Vera Sofia Mota (1982) is a Portuguese artist based in Berlin since 2011. She studied choreography, performance, philosophy and yoga in Portugal, Holland, Germany and India and has been working in these areas. She emphasizes the work with Portuguese choreographer João Fiadeiro and RE.AL in Lisbon during 2006-10, where she did her first creations, and the long-term collaboration with Dutch dramaturge Fransien van der Putt since 2010 in different projects and contexts. Her research project at the MA at ArtEZ in Holland (2014-16) was entitled `Multiplicity in Practice: Emergent Compositions` - a study of how `many things` can/do relate ecologically in art and life and how this plurality of relationships can be practiced (political-)ethically and artistically. At the invitation of LIMA Amsterdam and in collaboration with Fransien van der Putt, Vera has been researching the work of visual, performance and video pioneer artist, Nan Hoover (New York, 1931 - Berlin, 2008) since 2015.

Comment l`art et les artistes fonctionnent-ils et survivent-ils au domaine institutionnel, qui est si fortement réglementé aujourd`hui? Comment fonctionnent-ils dans un marché qui semble être de plus en plus aliéné des valeurs artistiques et des processus de création? Comment pourrions-nous surmonter ce fossé entre les artistes/l`œuvre d`art et les instituts?
Inspiré par le philosophe américain Michael Hardt et sa conférence sur l`amour comme un concept politique, «About Love» (2007), différentes études sur l`éthique des soins et de la politique, et la transmission de la pratique de l`amour et de soins comme une réponse possible, je vais proposer une discussion sur ce que l`amour et les soins sont à essayer de répondre aux questions: comment les artistes peuvent-ils pratiquer l`amour avec les instituts, et vice-versa? Comment les artistes et les instituts pourraient-ils développer une pratique de soins comme moyen de s’habiliter mutuellement?

Vera Sofia Mota (1982) est une artiste portugaise basée à Berlin depuis 2011. Son projet de recherche dans son Master à ArtEZ en Hollande (2014-16) était intitulé «multiplicité dans la pratique: les compositions émergentes»-une étude de la façon dont «beaucoup de choses» peuvent/font se rapportent écologiquement dans l`art et la vie et comment cette pluralité de relations peut être pratiquée (politique- ) éthiquement et artistiquement. A l`invitation de LIMA Amsterdam et en collaboration avec Fransien van der Putt, Vera a fait des recherches sur le travail de l`artiste pionnier de la vidéo, de la performance et de l`audiovisuel, Nan Hoover (New York, 1931-Berlin, 2008) depuis 2015.
